I wrote my book, Breaking Free from Boomerang Love -- Getting Unhooked from Borderline Personality Disorder Relationships, in the year 2000, over the course of four months. Each time I had an ah ha! moment, I just had to write it down, catch it and save it so I wouldn't forget -- so I could go back and re-read it, digest it further, understand the 'why's' of BPD so I wouldn't feel the hurt so deeply. At the time, I had no idea where the simple journaling of my feelings and healing journey would lead me.
Today, my words have been rather magically transformed into a published book, with people all over the world becoming empowered from their reading of my pilgrimage. I can't begin to tell you how humbling and gratifying this experience has become.
The biggest surprise to me, since I only experienced emotional abuse, is that domestic violence victims are identifying with my journey, re-grieving their pain as they read of mine, identifying symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder in their partners, and becoming empowered to take back their power and their lives.
And so was born this blog.
I've since learned that three women are murdered every day in the United States by their intimate partner . . . three women . . . every day . . . and 25 percent of these murders are witnessed by children. Can there be anything more heartbreaking? Only having to bury one's own child comes to mind.
So I scan the Internet every day, looking for glimmers of hope for those still in the grips of fear and confusion -- and signs of officials taking domestic violence seriously and stepping up to the plate to protect women (and men) victims, as well as their children.
And I want to reach the victims, educate them about Borderline Personality Disorder. It's estimated that up to 60 percent of abusers are Borderlines -- yet what domestic violence organization tells their victims about BPD? I'll post in the future about how Borderlines function, their fears, their motives. Knowing this information will literally help victims prevent their own abuse -- and maybe even save their lives.
For now, I'm glad you've found this blog. Feel free to comment and share. We're all in this together. And together we'll make a difference.
